Much like most the the gear the produce, the Studiophile series of monitors from M-Audio are a great introduction into the the recording equipment world. Although the models differ slightly, each offers a magnetically shielded cab, silk dome tweeters, and a specific wattage amplifier. The three models run from 1/8 stereo mini jack high quality desk speakers (the AV30), to entry level XLR capable reference monitors (BX5a). While you can easily land all this gear without spending your whole paycheck (hopefully), they sound beat most competing brands in price and functionality.
